Students involved in Greek life at Nebraska Wesleyan University believe that belonging to a Greek letter organization has given them a unique chance to develop their academic skills, leadership experience and community involvement while creating new friendships and lifelong memories at the same time.

Scholarship
Members of the Nebraska Wesleyan University Greek system realize that while the University provides many extracurricular opportunities, our primary objective while at college is to obtain a quality education. As individuals, we recognize this goal and help each other in the pursuit of academic excellence.
Each chapter places a strong emphasis on creating an atmosphere that is conducive to high academic performance, as well as challenging each member to live up to his or her own highest academic potential. Every sorority and fraternity has many resources available to its members. The chapter houses are equipped with libraries, quiet study areas, and quiet hours. As a Greek member you will also have the added advantage of computers in the chapter houses, study-groups, tutors, and upper-class students who are more than willing to provide their advice.
Additionally, many of NWU's sororities and fraternities recognize academic achievement through scholarships and loans. Each individual chapter has its own academic achievement awards and scholarship programs.

Community Service
All of the Greek organizations on NWU's campus realize that we have a responsibility to the community of which we are a part. For this reason the Greeks have an active program of philanthropic activities and community service and we are proud of the active role that we take in helping the Lincoln community.
Throughout the school year each Greek chapter devotes some time to assisting local organizations such as the Lincoln Food Bank, the Lincoln City Mission and the Northeast Family Center. Some of the chapters are affiliated with a national philanthropy organization and they help support them through annual fundraisers. Greek Week also provides an opportunity for the sororities and fraternities to come together and donate their time and energy to local philanthropies such as the Special Olympics.

Leadership
The Greeks at NWU encourage their members to gain and use effective leadership skills. Each chapter has positions that allow student members to coordinate the activities of the chapter, while developing financial and organizational responsibilities.
Greeks are heavily involved in almost every campus activity ranging from student government and athletics, to academic honoraries and clubs. Traditionally, Greeks have been the backbone of many such activities and organizations.

Social Functions
Each of the Greek chapters at NWU keeps an active social calendar. Sororities and fraternities offer a multitude of fun events including organized social events, small-group activities and even water-skiing and other sporting activities.
Most of the Greek chapters participate in serenades, dinner exchanges, study break activities, theme and holiday parties, and annual formals as well as parent and family days. Social functions are often cosponsored by two or more of the NWU sororities and fraternities. While many of these events are optional they provide a relaxing atmosphere in which Greek members can meet other people and enjoy a break from studying.

New Member
As a new member of the NWU Greek system students enjoy a period of orientation. New members learn a great deal about the organization that they have decided to commit their time and talents to and prepare to enter the mainstream of chapter activity. This time gives the new member class the opportunity to bond and form lasting friendships as they work with each other to further the interests and ideals of their chapter.
