How much does joining a sorority cost?
Joining a sorority at Nebraska Wesleyan University is extremely affordable. The majority of Greek students at NWU work outside of the classroom and participate in extracurricular activities, while also holding successful leadership positions on campus.
The cost of dues per semester varies from chapter to chapter, however, average dues are about $230 per semester. It is also significantly less costly to live in a Greek house as opposed to the residence halls. In addition, many of the Greek organizations have payment plans, which make Greek Life even more affordable. We suggest that you ask each chapter about the financial responsibilities during Panhellenic Recruitment.

How much time commitment is involved with being in a sorority?
As much time as you want to put into it. Monday night meetings are required, and they generally last for about one-and-a-half-hours. A few times a year educational programs will be provided which are also required - but most things are optional.

What advantages does the Greek system offer? Why should I join a Greek house?
There are many good reasons to join. The most important is the lifelong friendships that are made. Greek organizations also help you to adjust to college life by being "a home-away-from-home." Having a place where you feel comfortable with friends is important. A sorority can provide that for you.

What happens if my friends join a different sorority than I do?
Greek chapters do many things together. The Panhellenic Council plans various activities together, as do the various houses. Friendships between different chapter members are encouraged, not discouraged.

What is the "best house" on campus?
The only person who can answer that question is you. The best house for one person is not always the best house for another. Consider where you feel most comfortable. We hope you will feel comfortable in all the sororities.

As a pledge or associate member, will I experience hazing?
No. A sorority will never ask you to violate any personal, religious, or moral values. We don't believe in the school-of-thought that punishment and embarrassment is acceptable.

Are academics encouraged?
Most definitely. Each house prides itself on academic achievements, for the group in general and for individuals. Incentives within each organization usually recognize outstanding academic performance.

What can a sorority offer me after college?
Besides lifelong friendships you will make, you will also acquire connections. Your sorority sisters can help you find a job or adjust to life in a new city.

What are sororities doing about alcohol and drugs?
As with any organization, Greek chapters must follow all state and local laws regarding alcohol use and illegal drugs. Further, each organization at Wesleyan participates in a "risk management" program, which sets strict guidelines about the use of alcohol. Since the inception of this program a few years ago, social functions at Wesleyan's Greek houses have been much safer. All sorority houses are drug and alcohol free.
