Over the years
there have been many changes to the way sports are played and carried
out. Whether these where equipment rules, game play rules, or even
eligibility rules they have all been changed in some way. Some may say
change is bad, but in my opinion going from the leather helmets used in
football many years ago to the nice hard padded helmets we use today is
a good thing.
Sadly though there have been some sad changes especially in
the elementary and junior high schools. Major cut backs in budgets have
forced many schools to but back on physical education programs or even
get rid of them completely. This is very bad in the fact that kids need
to be physically active especially at a young age where they can develop
good habits of exercising so they don’t end up with diabetes and
overweight. It also helps them to build good social and teamwork skill
by working together to play a sport or activity.
In athletics many changes will occur in the fact that not
just anyone can coach a team but they must have a coaching certificate
to do so. This will help in the fact that the coaches can be educated in
how to deal with the parents that feel like they need to talk with the
coach about getting their child more playing time, and also help the
coach to make better decisions on who really should play.
Exercise and fitness will also become a bigger thing as time
goes on. People who want to live longer can already do that, but its not
the number of years you live it’s the number of years of quality life
that counts. Quality life means the number of years you live that you
can still do things by yourself and not rely on others to help you. With
exercise and fitness specialist they are able to show people ways that
they can add quality years to their lives. Along with those, Athletic
Trainers will help to prevent some of the injuries that can lead to
athletes becoming disabled later on in life and losing those quality
years. As time goes on, these three areas will be increasing and will
definitely make a positive impact on how people live.
